A ceremony of placing the sacred substances in the Maitreya statue was held at “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni”
Today, at the main Buddhist temple of Kalmykia, “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni,” a ceremony of placing the sacred substances in the Maitreya statue was held. According to the canons, all the necessary sacred substances were placed into the statue. Very painstaking work was done by the volunteers; they prepared the zungs — sheets rolled up in a special way with mantras. They also took an active part in the placement process itself today. A shared spiritual impulse could be felt.
The thangka painters Tatyana Muzraeva and Amra Dordzhi-Goryaeva, who spent two months painting the Maitreya statue, could not fail to come to this final stage of the work. “It is very moving to be present today in our khurul, to see how the placement takes place, how the Bodhisattva Maitreya ‘comes to life before our eyes,’ with what inspiration and love everyone takes part,” the masters of painting noted in conversation with us.
Upon completion of the placement ceremony, the monks performed a special Rabne ritual, the ritual of consecrating the Maitreya statue.
Starting tomorrow, anyone who wishes may behold the statue on the 3rd level of the Central Khurul, offering to the great Bodhisattva their prayers for the benefit of all living beings.
