A great prayer festival — Monlam Chenmo — will take place in Kalmykia
For three days, special prayer services “Ik Yöräl” (Monlam Chenmo) will take place in the main Buddhist temple of Kalmykia. By tradition, the great prayer festival is held during the first 15 days of Tsagan Sar. It was precisely during these days that Buddha Shakyamuni, in the course of his debate with six teachers who preached erroneous doctrine, showed his miraculous powers.
Thus, on February 22, 23 and 24, these great prayer services will take place in two sessions. The tradition of holding “Ik Yöräl” was established by Lama Tsongkhapa (Zunkva Gegän) back in 1409.
As the monks of the Central Khurul note, the power of the aspirational prayers during these days is very great. It is important for believers to take part in these events.
