All of Kalmykia Prays Today for the Long Life of His Holiness

These are scenes from this morning's festive prayer service dedicated to the birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Throughout the temple the sounds of the dung horn rang out, heralding the ceremonial bringing out of the Teacher's portrait. In that moment the Dugan seemed to hold its breath, as though the Dalai Lama himself had entered the hall. The chanting of the “Migtsema” by monks and the faithful gave the moment a special significance, and in that shared voice there was everything — gratitude, hope, a prayer for the Teacher's long life.

Before His Holiness's portrait — the traditional offerings: white khadaks, flowers — as a sign of respect. Everyone who came to the khurul today bowed their head, whispered mantras, and paused for a moment, trying to hold this sacred sense of belonging in their heart. Among those who offered their prayers for the Dalai Lama was the Head of the region, Batu Khasikov — a fact that once again underscored how important and dear this day is to the whole republic.
The Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Geshe Tenzin Choidak, addressed the faithful with words of congratulation. He reminded everyone that the Dalai Lama's chief precept is at once simple and profound: everywhere and always do good, show compassion, and strive to benefit those around you.
Today's prayer service was not merely a ceremony but a shared spiritual effort that united people in a single good intention — the wish of every blessing for our Spiritual Teacher.
