Another Kalmyk Language Study Group Has Begun Its Work
The latest Kalmyk language courses at the Central Khurul started the day before.
The first introductory lesson showed that interest in one’s native language unites generations. Among the students are young people who have decided to explore their roots more deeply, adults wishing to revive forgotten knowledge, and even those who dared to speak Kalmyk for the first time.
The permanent teacher of these courses is Sergey Nikolayevich Artaev, Doctor of Philology and professor at the Department of the Kalmyk Language, Mongolian Studies and Altaic Studies at Kalmyk State University named after B. Gorodovikov. According to him, the course is designed for 2 months — during this time the participants will progress from their first phrases to confident communication in everyday situations: “The main thing is the desire of the person themselves, who will truly do more than what is given in the classes, that is, build up additional vocabulary, read Kalmyk literature, and learn what is needed. The result of attending our courses is always individual.”
Sergey Nikolayevich presented the structure of the training to those gathered in detail: they will begin with a lexical foundation and work through grammar without “dry theory,” through lively dialogues and everyday situations. They will immerse themselves in oral folk art, with special attention paid to conversational practice. As a reminder, classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, weekly, at 18.00.
The course has only just begun — you still have the opportunity to join this important endeavor.
