“Buddha in the Heart of the People”, a Film by Roman Sukhostavsky

We present to your attention the documentary film “Buddha in the Heart of the People” about the history of Buddhism in Kalmykia. Buddhism is rightly considered the main spiritual bond of the Kalmyk people over many centuries, and the connection with Tibet and the Dalai Lama is an integral part of the life of society. In the 20th century, the Kalmyk people endured the most severe trials — the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War, deportation to Siberia, and the almost complete destruction of religious and cultural traditions. Scholars and researchers, keepers of spiritual and material values, tell about these difficult pages of history in the film “Buddha in the Heart of the People”. The film was created in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Buddhist temple “Geden Sheddup Choikorling” (Syakyusn-syume) in Kalmykia.
