“Buddhism for Children”: The Khurul Library Invites You
The exhibition “Buddhism for Children” has opened in the library of the Central Khurul of Kalmykia “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni.” The colorful books attract the attention of children; in a simple form they tell about the life of the Buddha, Buddhism, and religion. Erdem Sangadzhiev, a sixth-grade student of Elista School No. 3, is a frequent guest of the library. Right now he is reading the book “Buddha, or the Legend of the Awakened Prince.” The Buddha’s Teaching did not vanish into the dust of centuries but turned into a world religion. The secret of this was determined by the remarkable fate of the Buddha: having renounced power and might in his youth, he lived a long life full of dangers and terrible trials, which he was helped to overcome by his intellect, willpower, and boundless tolerance and compassion toward people. The book adds to the scant information about the Buddha’s personal life, telling in detail for the first time about his relatives, friends, associates, and enemies.
