Construction Is Progressing at a Good Pace

In Ketchenery, the construction of a khurul continues. It is being erected on the very spot that the 14th Dalai Lama consecrated in 1992.

The work began in the autumn of 2020. According to the chairman of the organizing committee, Gennady Sharapov, the basement floor is now finished, walls have already been erected on the 2nd and 3rd levels, and the builders are beginning the roofing work and the connection of utilities.

The Ketchenery Khurul is being built with people’s voluntary donations. Thanks to the strong support of all the faithful, the work is not stopping. To date, more than 13 million rubles have been collected. If everything continues in the same way, the facility will be completed by the end of this year.

In parallel, work is also being carried out on the canonical part. To date, more than 3,500 tsatsas and 1,500 “Mird Burkhn” have already been made for placement during the construction. The main statue of the Buddha for this khurul has already been delivered to Kalmykia, and work will now begin on placing sacred relics inside it.

It is gratifying that a new park area with prayer wheels and 8 stupas will be located around the Buddhist temple. The people of Ketchenery are implementing it within the framework of the federal program “Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment.”

Today all the residents of the district, all those who provide what help they can during the construction of the Khurul, await its opening. This large and beautiful temple, according to the intent of the local residents, will be not only a religious center but also a center for the revival and development of the national culture and language.
