A Delegation from Drepung Gomang Begins Work on Building a Mandala
The many-day, painstaking work of creating a mandala began today at the Central Khurul of Kalmykia. To mark the beginning of the construction of the Buddhist shrine, the monastic delegation that arrived from Drepung Gomang Monastery took part in the general morning prayer service. Afterwards, they consecrated the site where the future palace of Green Tara will stand. It is to her that the mandala is dedicated. This deity is known for her compassion and her constant readiness to protect people in times of hardship. Moreover, she is considered very “swift,” which is why the faithful love to turn to her with their most heartfelt concerns, asking for health, longevity, and the removal of obstacles.
As the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Geshe Tenzin Choydak, noted, when taking part in the process of building the sand mandala it is important to come with sincere motivation, with the motivation of goodness. “If you can, come during these days, contemplate the whole process, make circumambulations around the mandala being built, recite mantras — this is a great merit for everyone, and most importantly it establishes a close connection with the deity itself,” the Shajin Lama explained, addressing the parishioners.
Today the monks, led by the venerable Geshe Lharampa Tenzin Sangpo Rinpoche, worked on the drawing of the future palace of Green Tara, and toward evening they began the base.
Tomorrow the work will continue. As a reminder, the morning prayer service will begin at 9:00 a.m.
