A delegation of monks from Drepung Gomang Monastery will build a sand mandala
A delegation of monks from Drepung Gomang Monastery will visit Kalmykia. The program of the delegation’s visit, led by Gyumed Khentul Rinpoche, includes the building of a sand mandala in Elista and in the village of Yashkul, as well as planned rituals in several districts of the republic.
On October 11, in the prayer hall of the Central Khurul, construction of the Medicine Buddha mandala will begin at 9:00 a.m.
As the administration of “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” notes, every day the monks from India, together with the clergy of the Central Khurul, will perform rituals: Chasum, Kangso, Sherning Dudok, Dolkar Tsevang, and on Friday a prayer service for the deceased will be held. Also, every day at 6:00 p.m., in the conference hall of the khurul, the Venerable Rinpoche will give a lecture on the topic “Consciousness and mental factors.”
On October 16, the completion of the sand mandala construction in Elista is planned, after which the delegation of monks from Drepung Gomang Monastery will visit the village of Yashkul, where it will also perform a series of rituals over several days and build a sand mandala.
The visit program also includes the villages of Tsagan-Aman, Arshan-Zelmen, Malye Derbety and Ketchenery.
And on October 29, the ceremony of dismantling the Medicine Buddha mandala will take place, which the faithful can behold for almost two weeks at the main Buddhist temple of Kalmykia.
