The Head of the Central Khurul Administration Took Part in the Region's August Conference of Educators
Yonten-gelung took part in the traditional August conference of educators of the republic.
On behalf of the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Geshe Tenzin Choydak and the entire monastic Sangha, the head of the khurul administration expressed words of gratitude to all the educators of the region for their invaluable contribution and noble labor: “It is precisely on you, the educators, that the future of our society, of our people, depends. You are that very bridge between the present and the future, and it is precisely on your work that what we will have tomorrow depends — namely, a healthy, harmonious, righteous society. I sincerely wish you sound health, strength and patience.”
Yonten-gelung also noted that the clergy of Kalmykia are glad that for 10 years now schools have been teaching “The Fundamentals of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics.” The Central Khurul is always ready to provide any assistance to teachers in teaching these subjects. And one of the measures of support is providing all the schools of the republic with new textbooks on the subject “The Fundamentals of Buddhist Culture,” authored by Doctor of Historical Sciences, leading researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Batyr Kitinov.
By September 1, the main Buddhist temple of Kalmykia purchased new textbooks on "The Fundamentals of Buddhist Culture" and methodological aids for teachers for all the schools of the republic, and today Yonten-gelung solemnly presented them to the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kalmykia, Bulgan Angirova. The Central Khurul is also ready to assist in conducting professional development courses for teachers on this subject.
In addition, work is being carried out together with the Ministry of Education and Science of the republic to create a Buddhist school for children. We remind you that this instruction was given to the ministry by the Head of the Republic Batu Khasikov. The project was supported by the Minister of Education of Russia Sergey Kravtsov after visiting the khurul "The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni" during his visit to Kalmykia.
In his speech, Yonten-gelung also noted the successes in the development of higher Buddhist education and Buddhist research. Kalmyk State University this year received accreditation in the field of “Oriental Studies,” and also won a grant from the Foundation for the Promotion of Buddhist Education and Research for the development of a bachelor's program in Buddhism.
Thus, in the near future Kalmykia will have the entire range of education in Buddhism, from school to university.
