Helping Is a Joy

“Every two weeks we try to do this kind of wet cleaning,” volunteer Mira Borisovna tells us. It is important to observe certain rules: the figurines are taken off the pedestal clockwise (zöv ergäd), and with a special brush the dust is swept only from the robe of the Great Teacher. By the way, on the third level of the Central Khurul alone there are about 500 such figurines of Buddha Shakyamuni. The volunteers Natalya Alekseyevna, Nina Matievna, and Mira Borisovna try, whenever possible, to come here more often and offer what help they can. For each of them, it is a joy. Without being distracted by our conversation, the women continue to clean the pedestal with the figurines, inwardly reciting the mantra for the well-being of all living beings.
