In India, ahead of receiving the high title of “Geshe Lharampa,” Tenzin Norzang (Sanal Mukubenov), together with other monks, organized a large prayer service at Drepung Gomang

These are truly historic images from India, prepared by the #radiobumba creative team. They are now at Drepung Gomang Monastery and are witnesses to a momentous event: our fellow countryman, the respected Tenzin Norzang (Sanal Gelung Mukubenov), will in the coming days receive the highest academic degree in Buddhist philosophy — the degree of Geshe Lharampa. Today, November 15, Sanal Gelung, together with other monks, organized festive prayer services ahead of receiving the high title.

This day began in the early morning, in the common prayer hall of Drepung Lachi Monastery, where nearly 4,000 monks from the Loseling and Gomang datsans gathered.

To their prolonged prayers, Sanal Gelung, together with monks of the Central Khurul and believers from Kalmykia who came to support him and share this significant day, made an offering to all the monks of the monastery.

Then, at midday, in the main prayer hall of Drepung Gomang, the official part of the event took place. It should be said that the Geshe Tango prayer service is one of the main activities. Traditionally, all candidates for the title of “Geshe” hold such a prayer service in order to thank the monastery, treat, and make an offering to all the monks living there.

By the way, on November 20 the main ceremonial events on the occasion of the Kalmyk monk receiving the title of Geshe Lharampa will take place
