Kalmykia to celebrate Tsagan Sar on February 21

On the first lunar day of the month of the Dragon, which falls on February 21 this year, we will all celebrate the arrival of spring — Tsagan Sar. At the Central Khurul, festive prayer services will begin early in the morning. At 3:00 a.m. the monks will hold the traditional prayer service “Tsogt Okn Tengrin shinin balng örgh yosn.” It is worth noting that this ritual is performed only once a year, precisely on the day when, according to legend, the goddess Okon Tengri descends to earth at dawn, blessing all living beings. That is why on this day the clergy offer prayers to the Protectress Okon Tengri, ceremonially present her with torma (special offerings made of dough), and thank her for protecting the Dharma and the entire Kalmyk people, asking her to continue to grant her patronage. At 9:00 a.m. a solemn prayer service will be held on the occasion of the celebration of Tsagan Sar, after which all the faithful will be treated to the traditional aromatic jomba and bortsoki.
