Kalmykia to Widely Celebrate the Dalai Lama’s Birthday
Year after year, on July 6 we gather at the Central Khurul to mark the birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama. This is our shared day, a day of gratitude and good wishes to His Holiness. This year we will all celebrate his 91st anniversary. Behind this date lies a life devoted to making the world kinder
Traditionally, we begin this day with the “Sangsol” ritual, turning to the deities who are the protectors and guardians of the Dalai Lama and asking them for the long life and well-being of our Spiritual Leader. It begins at 7.30 in the morning; the ritual will take place on the square in front of the khurul.
At 9:00 a solemn prayer service will be held on the occasion of the celebration of His Holiness’s birthday. The monks, together with the faithful, will offer their prayers for the long life and well-being of our Teacher. Later, the monks of the Central Khurul will treat everyone gathered to fragrant jomba and delicious bortsoks.
And at 18:30, by tradition, our monks will treat everyone who comes to the city square in Druzhba Park to festive cakes. A grand concert performed by the masters of the arts of our republic will also take place there.
