Kundeling Rinpoche Visited Kalmyk State University

“In this temple of science, where the young generation is taught and brought up, where almost 1,000 staff members work, where more than 9,000 students from more than 50 countries study, where such tasks of upbringing as peacefulness, kindness, and compassion are a priority, it is very important for us today to welcome a distinguished guest within our walls — our Venerable Kundeling Rinpoche,” — this is how Badma Salaev, rector of Kalmyk State University, began the meeting.

Teachers and students of Kalmyk State University came today to meet the Venerable Rinpoche. They spoke about the life of the institution, highlighting in particular the great work being carried out at the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies of the Institute of Kalmyk Philology and Oriental Studies. Thus, this year enrollment will begin for a new bachelor's program in the field of “Buddhology.” This became possible  thanks to a grant won from the Foundation for the Promotion of Buddhist Education and Research. The Venerable Kundeling Rinpoche was told what a rich program in Buddhology there would be.

“I am very glad that such work is being carried out here. After all, a university is the place where knowledge is formed for the rising generations, and they are our future,” noted the esteemed Rinpoche.

He gave many instructions to the students, explaining how important it is to remember kindness and the inner spiritual development of a person, and to study diligently and reach heights not only for oneself, but for one's people and one's Kalmykia.
