Lecture by the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia on the Basics of Buddhism
The day before, the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Geshe Tenzin Choydak, gave a lecture on Buddhism for everyone who wished to attend. For almost two hours, those gathered had the opportunity to learn more about the basics of our religion. They spoke about the Three Jewels: the Buddha, his Teaching, and the Monastic Sangha. As the Shajin Lama noted, without a general understanding of the Three Jewels it is difficult to speak of any further development.
During the lecture, the topic of permanence and impermanence was raised. Much was said about morality, as well as about how susceptible we are to emotions and how we often act based on them. The listeners themselves later shared that, having come to this lecture, they not only delved deeper into the philosophy of Buddhism but also received a certain guide to life, to living rightly.
Concluding the lecture, Geshe Tenzin Choydak noted that those who wish to practice Buddhism must approach this matter with all seriousness: first study the theory, learn the basics, engage in analysis… “The main thing is your great desire,” concluded the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia.
