Members of the Interreligious Council of Kalmykia laid flowers at the “Eternal Flame” memorial
On the eve of Victory Day, May 8, Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche, Archbishop Justinian of Elista and Kalmykia, and the deputy chairman of the Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of Kalmykia, Radzhap Ziyautdinov, laid flowers at the war memorial.
The laying ceremony was also attended by monks of the Central Khurul “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni,” clergy of the Kazan Cathedral of Elista, and students of the Cossack class of the St. Sergius of Radonezh Russian National Gymnasium.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the heads of the three religious communities addressed everyone gathered on this day. In his speech, the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the events of those years and the enormous contribution of the older generation to the cause of preserving and maintaining peace. “We live in the modern world, in the 21st century, thanks to the labor and courage of the older generation. And in this modern world we must maintain peace, friendship, understanding and respect for one another,” the Head of the Buddhists of Kalmykia said.
