New Buddhist books have arrived at the Central Khurul of Kalmykia

The Central Khurul of Kalmykia “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” has received books from the “Nestor-Istoria” publishing house: “The Ornament of Realizations,” chapters IV through VIII, “Mind and Knowledge. The Tradition of Studying the Theory of Cognition at the Gomang Datsan of the Tibetan Monastery of Drepung,” and “The Buddhist Tradition of Tantras in Tibet.” “The Ornament of Realizations” is the fundamental text of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism on the doctrine of the Mahayana path. The work discusses questions of cognition, the psychology of cognition, and Buddhist philosophy and soteriology from the perspective of developing the qualities of the mind and attaining the perfection of understanding. Chapter VIII discusses questions of the methodology of studying the fundamental philosophical Buddhist text, the concepts of “Buddha” and “the bodies of the Buddha” as forms of existence of an awakened being, the concepts of “perfection of understanding,” “the activity of the Buddha,” and others. The book “Mind and Knowledge. The Tradition of Studying the Theory of Cognition at the Gomang Datsan of the Tibetan Monastery of Drepung” discusses questions of the foundations of Buddhist theory of cognition, in particular presenting classifications of cognitive acts from the perspective of the development of the mind; it contains a course of lectures on the subject of “Mind and Knowledge” by the Tibetan scholar Jamyang Khyentse, translated into Russian, along with the text of an 18th-century Tibetan source on the basis of which this course was delivered. “The Buddhist Tradition of Tantras in Tibet” includes a general introduction to the subject and a course of lectures on the tradition of Tantras, in which the essence of the Buddhist tradition of Tantras and the methods and goals of this teaching are explained consistently and competently. The basis for the course of lectures was the work of the Mongolian author Ngawang Choyje, “Clarification of the Texts [of the Tradition] of Tantra: A Presentation of the Structure of the Stages and Levels of the Four Classes of Secret Tantra.” All the books were translated by Raisa Nikolaevna Krapivina, a Russian orientalist, Tibetologist, translator, Candidate of Historical Sciences, and senior research fellow at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The books can be purchased at the shop of the Central Khurul. The number of copies is limited.
