On February 8, Two Great Rituals Will Be Held at “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” Ahead of Tsagan Sar

Every year at the main Buddhist temple of Kalmykia, in anticipation of the national holiday Tsagan Sar, special great rituals are traditionally held: “Kangso” and “Hurvn khüv.”

This Thursday, February 8, in the morning, the monks of “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” will recite praises to all the Säküsns. It just so happens that on the lunar calendar this is the Day of all the Protectors of the Dharma. Once a month, precisely on this day, the “Kangso” ritual is performed. During the ritual a special connection is established with the deities who guard and protect a person and grant well-being and happiness. It is precisely on this day that it is important to offer the Golden drink Serjm. The ritual begins at 9:00 a.m.

And at 1:00 p.m. the rite aimed at removing obstacles and ailments — “Hurvn khüv” — will begin. For this, all believers will be given pieces of dough with which a person passes over their face, body, and afflicted areas. The meaning of this ritual is purification from accumulated negativity. We remind you that there is no need to bring dough from home; it will be provided on site, at the khurul.
