On the final day of Urs Sar, the residents of Kalmykia performed a great ritual

Today, on the final day of the sacred month of Urs Sar, following the now-established tradition, the monks of the Central Khurul held the great “Sangso” ritual at the “Lonely Poplar”. This is a rite of offering saңgs (incense, special herbs) through fire to all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Protectors of the Dharma, and patrons of the locality🙏

The ritual itself began with the consecration of the Offerings: everything that had been prepared is first cleansed by the monks of impurities, consecrated, and only then offered to the fire. After this, the clergy recited special prayers of offering, the Altn Undn — “Serjm” (“Golden Drink”). And in conclusion of the rite, they performed the ceremony of invoking well-being and good fortune.

As Yonten-Gelung, the head of the administration of “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni”, explained at the very beginning of the ritual, it is very important at such moments to generate a virtuous motivation and to dedicate one's prayers for the benefit of all living beings. “Today, on the final day of our sacred month, we have the great fortune to perform such a ritual, in such a holy place, accumulating buyn and, without fail, dedicating this merit for good. The Monastic Sangha rejoices in all those who kept the fast during this month, who strove to accumulate as much buyn as possible — this is precious,” Yonten-Gelung noted.

In conclusion of the ritual, all the believers together with the monks offered good wishes for the prosperity of our region, our people, and for the Buddhist Teaching to continue to develop, be preserved, and bring benefit to all living beings.
