One of the Most Sacred Days in the Buddhist Calendar Is Approaching
One of the most sacred days in the Buddhist calendar is approaching — the Day of the Birth, Enlightenment, and Passing into Mahaparinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni.
Around the world, Buddhists observe it with a special spiritual unity. At the Central Khurul, this Sunday, May 31, the festive celebrations will begin early in the morning:
At 4:00 a.m., the Venerable Geshe Changchub will bestow the one-day Mahayana vows upon all who wish to receive them
At 9:00 a solemn prayer service will take place. In honor of the sacred holiday, the monks will offer prayers to the Great Teacher — Buddha Shakyamuni
From 9:00 to 19:00, in the prayer hall of the khurul, throughout the entire day everyone will be able to bow before and contemplate the sacred relics: the Sharira of Buddha Shakyamuni and a sprout of the Bodhi tree
At 15:00 — the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Geshe Tenzin Choydak, will give a lecture on the fundamentals of Buddhism
At 17:00 the traditional hanging of the large thangka depicting the Buddha will take place on the facade of the khurul, on the northern side, where a ritual of washing and consecration will be performed.
