The opening of the “Tashi Gomang” khurul was held in the village of Tsagan-Nur, Oktyabrsky District

The opening ceremony was attended by the Head of the Buddhists of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche, the monks of the Central Khurul “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni”, the head of the Taltakhin clan Yuri Taltaev, and the akhlachi of the Oktyabrsky RMO Basang Ubushaev. According to the abbot of the khurul, Geshe Mutl, they had planned to open the khurul last year, but due to the pandemic the timeline was postponed.

Before the start of the prayer service, the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche addressed those present with words of greeting. “I am very glad to have the opportunity to attend this ceremony. Two months ago we opened a khurul in the village of Sarpa, today we are opening a khurul in Tsagan-Nur, and I am glad about this event. Back in 1992, when I was elected Shajin Lama, we set ourselves a number of tasks: to train new monks, to restore the khuruls in Kalmykia and the Buddhist traditions, and it is very gratifying that the tasks we set are being accomplished,” the Head of the Buddhists of Kalmykia said.

“I want to sincerely thank the abbot of the khurul, Geshe Mutl. To this day he is the only monk who has completed the full course of study and received the degree of Geshe. And we are proud of him. Unfortunately, he declined to once again take up the post of abbot of the Central Khurul of Kalmykia “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” and decided to remain in Tsagan-Nur. You have a monk, a pure monk, and I want you to fully take advantage of the opportunity to receive the Teaching, and I have a request for Geshe Mutl to bestow the Teaching, to give lectures,” the Shajin Lama added.
Also, on behalf of the Central Khurul of Kalmykia, Rinpoche-la presented the khurul with a thangka of Lama Tsongkhapa as a gift and handed out letters of thanks and certificates to the activists who made a significant contribution to the construction of the “Tashi Gomang” khurul.

At the conclusion of the prayer service, all residents and guests were treated to a festive lunch, after which a festive concert took place, prepared by the National Orchestra of Kalmykia under the direction of Honored Art Worker Savr Kataev.
