Prayer Service Dedicated to the 77th Anniversary of the Deportation of the Kalmyk People

Today, on the Day of Memory and Mourning, a prayer service-yöräl dedicated to the 77th anniversary of the deportation of the Kalmyk people was held at the Central Khurul of Kalmykia “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni.”

Before the start of the prayer service, the Head of the Buddhists of Kalmykia, Telo Tulku Rinpoche, addressed the faithful. The Shajin Lama recalled that there is no Kalmyk family that this tragedy did not affect.

“I would like to dedicate today's prayer service to the older generation, who endured all the hardships and suffering and thanks to whom we have a republic,” he said.

At the conclusion of the prayer service, the monks proceeded to the memorial “Exodus and Return,” where they laid flowers and held a prayer service for the victims of the Stalinist repressions.
