A prayer service for the longevity of His Holiness was held in India today
Today, December 24, Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Geshe Tenzin Choydak took part in the Long Life Puja for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, which was held in the main temple of Drepung Monastery. First came the long-awaited and deeply symbolic ceremony of enthroning His Holiness at Drepung Monastery (the position of Drepung Tripa). The abbots of the monasteries, monks, and many honored guests, including the heads of the Buddhist sanghas of Russia, also took part in the Tenshug ceremony — a prayer service for the longevity of His Holiness. This prayer service was offered on behalf of the Drepung and Rato monasteries.
As the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia told us, today thousands of people, filled with a special feeling of joy, happiness, and unity, offered their prayers for the well-being of our spiritual leader. “I am infinitely glad to be present here, at the Puja, to take part on behalf of the Kalmyk people in such an important event. May our beloved and venerable Teacher remain in this world for as long as possible,” Geshe Tenzin Choydak noted.
The Long Life Puja (tenshug) serves as an important spiritual tradition that emphasizes the inseparable bond between the spiritual mentor and his followers.
