Premiere of the Play “The Path to Truth. Milarepa” Held in Kalmykia
On the stage of the Baatr Basangov Kalmyk Drama Theater, the premiere of the play “The Path to Truth. Milarepa,” directed by the Honored Art Worker of Russia Boris Mandzhiev, took place. The play is staged based on the biography of Milarepa - a teacher of Tibetan Buddhism, a renowned yogic practitioner and poet.
The Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Honorary Representative of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in Russia, the CIS countries, and Mongolia, Telo Tulku Rinpoche, congratulated the theater's artists and the audience on the premiere.
In his congratulatory speech, the Head of the Buddhists of Kalmykia recalled that this is the second realized project with the National Theater; earlier, in 2016, the play “I Am Buddha” was staged.
“The idea of creating plays on Buddhist themes was voiced by me back in the 90s, but for various reasons there was no opportunity to realize it. At the time I thought that the time had not yet come. And today we have already realized a second joint project, and I hope that it will have a continuation. Our doors are open,” the Rinpoche stated.
Also on this day, Telo Tulku Rinpoche presented the theater's artistic director Boris Mandzhiev and the composer, Hero of Kalmykia Arkady Mandzhiev with the Gratitude of the Shajin Lama and a commemorative token in honor of the 15th anniversary of the Central Khurul.
In his reply, Boris Mandzhiev said: “Today's premiere is a kind of offering by the National Theater to the anniversary of the Central Khurul. I hope that the play ‘The Path to Truth. Milarepa’ will become a continuation of our fruitful cooperation.”
