Preparations for the Third International Buddhist Forum

The development and support of the monastic institution, the theme of Buddhist education, questions of translation work… These and many other topics were discussed the day before at a meeting with the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Geshe Tenzin Choydak, by a delegation headed by Alexey Maslov, President of the Foundation for the Promotion of Buddhist Education and Research, together with representatives of the republic’s authorities.

The participants of the meeting discussed the main issues of preparing for the Third International Buddhist Forum, which will take place in Elista in the autumn of this year. Geshe Tenzin Choydak noted the importance of bringing the theme of Buddhist education in our country to the fore, as well as the importance of preserving and developing the monastic institution: “Within the framework of the forum, special attention must be paid to this theme, because today’s challenges facing the monastic institution concern not only our republic. It would be interesting to discuss and to see the experience of clergy representatives from other countries.” Incidentally, it is expected that the Buddhist Forum will bring together delegations and pilgrims from 35 countries that practice Buddhism.

During this meeting, it was decided to make these topics into separate sections of the Forum’s program.
