A Presentation of the Book “Kalmyk Songs About Siberia” Will Be Held in the Conference Hall of the Central Khurul
This Sunday, December 24, at 2:00 p.m., a presentation of the book “Kalmyk Songs About Siberia,” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the deportation of the Kalmyk people, will be held in the conference hall of the Central Khurul. The collection, published under the auspices of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was prepared by Doctor of Historical Sciences Elza-Bair Guchinova and Candidate of Philological Sciences Tsagan Seleeva, and is prefaced by a foreword by Academician Valery Tishkov and an introductory article by Elza-Bair Guchinova.
The book presents a cycle of Kalmyk folk songs about the deportation and life in Siberia, which are still performed in Kalmykia to this day. The corpus of 87 texts in the Kalmyk language, together with a Russian translation, includes songs collected during field work in Kalmykia, as well as previously published songs of this genre. Each song is accompanied by information about the performers and authors. More than 40 songs are provided with QR codes, which will make it possible to hear how these songs sound.
The collection was published by the Moscow publishing house “Bumba,” thanks to the patron Oleg Bartunov.
The book is addressed to everyone interested in Kalmyk culture. We invite all who wish to the presentation of the book at 2:00 p.m.
