Quotes of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
“A heart filled with compassion, it seems, endows a person with courage and resolve. Why does this happen? In my view, because compassion does not allow us to become fully absorbed in our own conflicts and stresses. Under the influence of compassion, we tend to pay more attention to the suffering and well-being of other beings, and it is easier for us, drawing on our own experience, to understand the suffering of others. As a result, a certain shift in perspective takes place, and in some cases we begin to perceive differently the suffering, pain and problems that fall to our own lot. What was previously simply unbearable now appears less significant - even insignificant. Thus, in an altruistic and compassionate person there inevitably arises a feeling that his own problems and conflicts can quite well be endured. It is far more difficult for troubles and hardships to disturb the peace of his mind.” The 14th Dalai Lama
