Renovation work underway at the “Geden Sheddub Choy Korling” monastery
As part of preparations for the celebration of the 25th anniversary of “Geden Sheddub Choy Korling”, popularly known as the Arshan Khurul, renovation work is underway on the territory of the monastery complex.
The renovation began at the beginning of summer, but due to the pandemic the work was suspended several times. To date, the facade of the building has been plastered and painted, the contractor has begun repairing the flights of stairs and repairing the prayer wheels, and work is underway to reconstruct the pedestals on which the lion statues will be installed. The monastery’s management plans to replace the surface of the square in front of the temple building with paving stones and to build a paved road up to the monks’ dormitories. Renovation is also continuing at “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni”, where builders are repairing the large prayer wheels, as well as finishing the painting of the temple’s ground floor.
Let us recall that the opening of the “Geden Sheddub Choy Korling” monastery took place in October 1996. The khurul became the first Buddhist temple on the territory of Kalmykia built in the post-Soviet period. Festive events on the occasion of the khurul’s anniversary will take place in October of this year; more detailed information will be available on the website of the Central Khurul and on social media.
