Restoration works continue at “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni”

At the main Buddhist temple of Kalmykia, in the prayer hall, the restoration of the wall paintings continues.

The thangka painters Dorji Wangchuk and Tatyana Muzraeva are now working at the wall, in the altar section, where the Buddha and the 16 great Arhats are depicted. “Almost two decades have passed since these images were painted. Due to the passage of time, we now have to restore them in places, preserving the ancient style of Buddhist painting,” the masters say.

The work ahead is painstaking. For now they have primed the areas that require renewal, next comes the matching of the paint tone… All work is carried out according to all Buddhist canons.
