Ritual of the Longevity Deity Amitayus (Ayush Burkhn)

The rituals for prolonging one’s years continue. Today the monks, together with the faithful, appealed to Amitayus, the Buddha of Longevity (Ayush Burkhn), asking him to remove all obstacles to a happy life, to prevent the loss of vital energy, and to grant health and well-being.

Throughout the temple, on every level, resounded the Amitayus Sutra of Boundless Life, “Tsaglsh uga nasni sudr”... By the way, as the text itself states, even if people merely hear the Sutra or read it aloud, their lifespan will not be depleted and they will be able to live for many years. And if it is kept at home and copied out, one’s merit will multiply many times over.

As the administrator of the Central Khurul, getsul Tubten Tsultim (Badma Dordzhiev), noted today, all these aspects of prolonging one’s years are certainly important; however, it is far more important to accumulate good merit and to perform virtuous deeds on the level of body, speech, and mind, and, of course, to teach this to one’s children.

The next ritual will take place on Saturday, December 6. It will be dedicated to Ushnishavijaya, the goddess of longevity
