The sacred month of Urs Sar begins on May 28
Perform as many virtuous deeds as possible, devote time to spiritual practice, keep the fast — these are the main pieces of advice that the monks of the Central Khurul give every year to the faithful on the eve of the sacred month of Urs Sar.
This year it begins on May 28. Let us recall that Urs Sar is connected with the most important events in the life of the Buddha: it was on the 15th day of this lunar month that Buddha Shakyamuni was born, attained Enlightenment, and passed into Parinirvana.
✅On the very first day of the sacred month, on May 28 at 7:00 a.m., the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Geshe Tenzin Choydak, will bestow vows upon all who wish to receive them. Traditionally, during this period many residents strive to give up bad habits, do no harm to other living beings, and keep the fast: they abstain from food obtained through killing.
✅At 9:00 a.m. on this day, a prayer service dedicated to the beginning of Urs Sar will take place.
For every Buddhist this is a very important period, for it is during Urs Sar that all our virtuous or non-virtuous deeds are multiplied a hundred thousand times. The sacred month will last until June 25.
