The Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Takes Part in the International Forum in Bodhgaya

At this very moment in the city of Bodhgaya, the sacred place where Buddha Shakyamuni attained awakening, the opening ceremony of the International Sangha Forum 2023 is drawing to a close. Over the next three days more than 2,000 members of the Sangha and invited guests from various countries of the world will discuss the theme: “Uniting Traditions, Embracing Modernity: A Dialogue on the Teaching of the Buddha in the Modern World.”

The Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Tenzin Choydak, is taking part in the forum. Along with other important matters, the conference will also consider the question of what it means to be a Buddhist in the 21st century, how to preserve the authenticity of established Buddhist traditions and make them more accessible to the people of the modern world.

The solemn opening ceremony was led by the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
