Through a vote of the clergy, Gelong Loden Sherab — known in secular life as Dolaan Aleksandrovich Urzhanay, who completed the full sixteen-year course of study in Buddhist philosophy at Drepung Gomang Monastery in India — was elected the spiritual leader of the Buddhists of the Tuvan Republic.
