Telo Tulku Rinpoche is again appointed to the position of Honorary Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Russia, Mongolia, and the CIS countries
The Supreme Lama of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche has again been appointed to the position of Honorary Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Russia, Mongolia, and the CIS countries. According to the existing rules, the representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama may hold this position for four years, after which the term in office may be extended twice by one year. The maximum term in this position is thus 6 years. The Rinpoche served as Honorary Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Russia, Mongolia, and the CIS countries from February 2015 to February 2021. On May 3, 2021, the Rinpoche again received the appointment to the post of Honorary Representative of the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism in Russia, Mongolia, and the CIS countries and will take office on May 18. During his tenure as Honorary Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Telo Tulku Rinpoche contributed to the strengthening of the centuries-old ties between the spiritual leader and Russian Buddhists, the development of dialogue between Buddhism and modern science, and the development of educational projects (including the program of social, emotional, and ethical learning developed at the instruction of the Dalai Lama). With his support and direct participation, a whole series of important scholarly conferences and seminars took place, including: - The round table “Tibetology and Buddhology at the Intersection of Science and Religion” (2016). - The conference “The Nature of Consciousness” within the framework of the program “Fundamental Knowledge: A Dialogue of Russian and Buddhist Scholars” (Dharamsala, 2017). - The round table “Buddhism and Science” (Institute of Philosophy of the RAS, 2017). With his assistance and participation, a project of research on meditation and altered states of consciousness is being carried out on the basis of the Tibetan Buddhist monasteries of India. The head of the project is Academician Svyatoslav Vsevolodovich Medvedev (N. P. Bekhtereva Institute of the Human Brain of the RAS, Saint Petersburg). Since 2009, at the joint initiative of the Venerable Elo Rinpoche and Telo Tulku Rinpoche, annual Teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the Buddhists of Russia have been held in India. Buddhists of Buryatia, Kalmykia, Tuva, and major cities of Russia take part in the Teachings. Since 2014, Teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the Baltic countries and Russia have been held in Riga, Latvia. Under the leadership of Telo Tulku Rinpoche, the work of the websites of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Russian (dalailama.ru) and in Mongolian (dalailama.mn) is carried out, where detailed information about the activities of the spiritual leader of Buddhism is published and internet broadcasts of his lectures and teachings are held. The book series “Nalanda” has been launched, in which the most important classical works of Buddhism recommended for translation by His Holiness the Dalai Lama are published. Telo Tulku Rinpoche is the chairman of the Union of Buddhists of Kalmykia, the spiritual head of the “Save Tibet” foundation (Moscow), the chairman of the “Save Tibet” society (Riga), and the chairman of the Tilopa Buddhist Center (Mongolia).
