The Central Khurul to Host the Great Prayer Gathering “Ik Yöräl”
For three days, on March 12, 13, and 14, the main Buddhist temple of Kalmykia will host the great prayer gathering
“Ik Yöräl.” By tradition, it is always held during the first 15 days after the welcoming of Tsagan Sar. These special prayer services are dedicated to the manifestation of miraculous powers by Buddha Shakyamuni. As noted in the ancient sutras, it was during this period that our Great Teacher Buddha Shakyamuni entered into a contest of abilities with the six teachers who preached an erroneous Teaching. Each day he displayed one miracle, and on the 15th day he triumphed.
Thus, the prayer services will be held in two sessions: from 9:00 to 11:30 and from 13:00 to 15:00. On Friday, March 14, the concluding day of “Ik Yöräl,” from early morning everyone may take the one-day Mahayana vows. The start is at 5:00.
It is believed that all acts and deeds, favorable or unfavorable, performed during this period are multiplied many times over.
