The Month of Urs Sar, Sacred to All Buddhists, Begins on May 20
The sacred month of Urs Sar is approaching, the month in which Buddha Shakyamuni was born, attained enlightenment, and passed into Mahaparinirvana. According to the lunar calendar, Urs Sar falls in the month of the sheep. This year it will run from May 20 through June 18 inclusive. This is the month when all our good or bad deeds are increased a hundred thousand times. This is a time when it is important to place emphasis on the accumulation of good merit, to devote it to spiritual practice.
The most important day of this sacred month — the day of the birth, enlightenment, and passing into Parinirvana — falls on June 4.
