The Sacred Month of Urs Sar Has Begun Today
Today, on the first day of Urs Sar, believers from various corners of our republic began arriving at “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” from early morning. It was important for them to begin this sacred month by taking vows from the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Tenzin Choydak (Mutul Ovyanov). A ceremony was held for taking vows of abstinence from alcohol, smoking, and the consumption of meat, fish, and eggs for a month.
As Geshe Tenzin Choydak noted, the main thing in this matter is motivation, understanding why you are taking the vow (tser). It is clear that all these actions contribute to the accumulation of good karma, but the most important thing at the foundation of abstaining from meat must be COMPASSION for animals, while at the foundation of abstaining from alcohol and tobacco lies MORALITY, care for loved ones, care for health. “At the same time, it is necessary to reflect daily on the rules of moral discipline, on why you need them and for what reason you observe them — then it will be easier for you to ‘keep’ the vow,” the Shajin Lama advised.
The ceremony itself was conducted in the Kalmyk language. The believers were able to ask all the questions that interested them and received detailed answers from the Shajin Lama.
Geshe Tenzin Choydak also told those gathered about his own many years of experience abstaining from meat.
In conclusion, it should be added that despite the fact that the duration of the “tser” is only a month, such a practice will certainly be beneficial and will create the causes for our well-being
