The Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Gave a Lecture on the Basics of Studying Buddhist Philosophy

The meeting of the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Geshe Tenzin Choydak, with the faithful, held the day before, was very interesting and fruitful. On the Day of the Birth, Enlightenment, and Passing into Mahaparinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni, the head of the Kalmyk clergy gave a lecture on the basics of studying Buddhist philosophy.

“If you have decided to engage in practice seriously, then first study Buddhist terminology; it is very important for understanding everything,” the Shajin Lama advised at the very beginning of the lecture. The concept of emptiness, permanence and impermanence; in general they examined what consciousness is, spoke about working on one’s own consciousness, about compassion, about how negativity arises…. The lecture-conversation lasted for 3 hours. The participants were able to ask all the questions that interested them and to receive very thorough answers.

In conclusion of the meeting, the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Geshe Tenzin Choydak, noted that each person’s Buddhist path to Enlightenment is his own: someone is at the very beginning of the path, someone is in the process of moving along it… and here it is important to understand what a precious human life is.
