The Venerable Geshe Tenzin Loden Conferred the One-Day Mahayana Vows

The Day of the Birth, Enlightenment, and Passing into Mahaparinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni began at the Central Khurul with the taking of the 8 one-day Mahayana vows. They were conferred by the venerable Geshe Tenzin Loden. Together with the respected Yonten-gelung, they explained in detail to the faithful about this very important and special day, about the need to generate the right motivation today, about the aspiration for the benefit of all beings, and about the fact that, having obtained a precious human birth, we have the opportunity to accumulate good merit. The monks advised doing as many good deeds as possible on this day and avoiding negative ones, for the results of all actions today are multiplied hundreds of thousands of times.

Despite the early morning hour, many of the faithful gathered in the prayer hall, and each of them took the vows until the next dawn. During these twenty-four hours they must not commit eight deeds, among which are: refraining from killing, lying, stealing, adultery, consuming alcohol and other intoxicating substances, sitting on high seats, using perfume and wearing adornments, as well as refraining from eating food in the afternoon.

Observing these rules of moral discipline is important for accumulating virtue, for the benefit of all living beings🙏
