The Working Visit of the Abbot of Drepung Gomang Monastery to Kalmykia Continues

Today Khen Rinpoche visited Kalmyk State University. A meeting with students and faculty took place there.

As the rector of KSU Badma Salaev noted, it is very  symbolic that on the Day of Knowledge, the University was visited by such a distinguished guest: “This meeting will remain in the history of our educational institution, since today an agreement was reached with His Eminence that students and teachers will be able to intern at Drepung Gomang Monastery. This is a big step in the study of Buddhism, since our University

pays special attention to scholarly research in Buddhology.”

Since 2017, Kalmyk State University has been running a master’s program for training specialists in the field of the history and culture of Buddhism. And this year the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies of KSU won a grant to develop the main educational bachelor’s program in the field of “Oriental Studies.”

Today the venerable Khen Rinpoche also visited the youth Buddhology laboratory, where, together with the participants of this project, they discussed the transformation of Buddhist culture in the modern world and raised questions of “social Buddhism.”

The meeting with students and teachers turned out to be very productive and useful.

The head of the administration of the Central Khurul, Yonten Gelung, on behalf of the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Geshe Tenzin Choydak and the entire monastic Sangha, congratulated the whole student community and the teaching staff on the beginning of the academic year, wishing everyone patience and a great desire to learn something new🙏
