Today in Elista the ancient Kalmyk ritual “Öördin orna teңgrin saң” was performed

Today's grand festival “Erin Һurvn naadn” began in the morning with the great prayer service “Öördin orna teңgrin saң”.

This ancient Kalmyk ritual is dedicated to the deities of the Oirat lands. It was performed to accumulate merit (buyn), purify the land, and remove obstacles on the path to attaining the happiness and well-being of the entire people. The monks of the Central Khurul, led by the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, recited prayers in their native Kalmyk language together with all the believers, who were specially given collections of prayers. The Head of the region, Batu Khasikov, also took part in the prayer service.

During the “Öördin orna teңgrin saң” ritual, special herbs, incense, various substances, 3 kinds of white food and 3 kinds of sweet food were offered through fire to the Three Jewels: the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha, to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, dakas and dakinis, the deities and guardians of the locality, and the various classes of living beings.
