Today Marks 15 Years of the Central Khurul “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni”


The Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Honorary Representative of the 14th Dalai Lama in Russia, Mongolia, and the CIS countries, Telo Tulku Rinpoche, congratulated the faithful and the monastic community on the anniversary. In his speech, the Shajin Lama thanked everyone who over these 15 years supported the Central Khurul and provided comprehensive assistance. “In the late 80s and early 90s, our khurul was located in a small house on 83 Lermontov Street. Later Geden Sheddub Choy Korling was built, known among the people as ‘Säküsn süm,’ and on December 27, 2005, our Central Khurul ‘The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni’ opened its doors. Over these 15 years a great many faithful supported us and helped us, and I sincerely wish to thank everyone who was by our side these years,” said Telo Tulku Rinpoche.

“I also want to sincerely thank His Holiness the Dalai Lama - our spiritual leader, who gave the khurul its name and provided great assistance at the project's creation stage. I thank him for his wholehearted support, his advice. I would also like to thank the first President of Kalmykia, Kirsan Nikolaevich Ilyumzhinov, thanks to whom this and many other khuruls of Kalmykia were built,” added the Head of the Buddhists of Kalmykia.

Representatives of the legislative and executive branches of state power came to congratulate the monastic community on the khurul's anniversary. Certificates of honor and letters of gratitude from the Government of the Republic of Kalmykia were presented to the monks and staff of the khurul by the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Kalmykia - Head of the Staff of the Government of the Republic of Kalmykia Gilyana Boskhomdzhieva; on behalf of the People's Khural - the Parliament of the Republic of Kalmykia, the assistant to the Chairman Sanal Alekseev offered congratulations; on behalf of the Elista City Assembly, the head of the city Nikolai Orzaev delivered a welcoming address.

At the conclusion of the prayer service in the khurul's conference hall, the Shajin Lama and the abbot of the Central Khurul presented certificates and commemorative medals to the monks, the staff of the khurul, and also to those who over many years had provided support to “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni,” among them figures of culture and the arts, science and education, the media, and public activists of the republic.
