Today One of the Senior Monks, Geshe Jampa, Passed Away

Dear brothers and sisters! Today the monastic community of Kalmykia suffered a great loss: in his 65th year, one of the senior monks departed from us — the venerable Losang Standzin, better known among believers and the residents of Kalmykia as Geshe Jampa. Geshe Jampa was born in 1956 in Ladakh, in the area of Zanskar. There he entered the local monastery for his studies, and five years later, in 1973, Geshe-la traveled to southern India, to the Drepung Gomang Monastery, to continue his education. In 1994, at the request of the administrator of Drepung Gomang Monastery, Geshe Jampa came to Kalmykia to assist in the revival of Buddhism and to attend to the religious needs of the population. After the construction of the “Geden Sheddub Choy Korling” monastery, from 1995 Geshe-la taught philosophy to novices and young monks. For 27 years, Geshe Jampa carried the light of faith to the residents of the republic, tirelessly bestowing the Teaching and empowerments. He made an enormous contribution to the revival of Buddhism, leaving behind a great many students. We all pray for his fortunate rebirth.
