Starting tomorrow, a series of lectures on the “Great Liberation” Sutra begins
Tomorrow, March 18, at 6:00 PM, another spiritual gathering with the Venerable Geshe Lharampa Jagba Gyatso will take place in the conference hall of the Central Khurul. Over the course of 5 weeks, the Teacher gave commentaries on one of the sutras most revered among Buddhists — the “Sutra of Golden Light” (Kalmyk: “Altn gerl”). Starting tomorrow, a series of lectures will begin on the “Great Liberation” Sutra, known in the Kalmyk language as Ik tonlhgch sudr.
Geshe Jagba Gyatso will first give oral permission (lung) to read the sutra, provide a detailed commentary on the passages difficult to understand, and reveal the text's key ideas that are important for practice.
The “Great Liberation” Sutra is part of the spiritual heritage of the Mongolic peoples. It has been translated into the Mongolian and Oirat languages, and in the Kalmyk tradition it was given special significance: before the revolution, believers read the sutra during the farewell to loved ones, believing that it helps the soul to be reborn in the higher realms.
