Tomorrow the Sacred Month of Urs Sar Begins for All Buddhists
The month of accumulating virtuous merit. Tomorrow, May 9, the sacred month of Urs Sar begins for all Buddhists. It will last until June 6.
As the monks of the Central Khurul note, this is the month when all our virtuous or non-virtuous deeds are multiplied a hundred thousand times. It is a time that is important to devote to spiritual practice, to place emphasis on the accumulation of virtuous merit. For example, many during the days of Urs Sar observe a fast so as not to cause harm to living beings and give up bad habits.
Urs Sar is connected with the most important events in the life of the Buddha; it was on the 15th of this lunar month that Buddha Shakyamuni was born, attained Enlightenment, and passed into Parinirvana. This year that day falls on May 23.
Dear faithful, tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. the Shajin Lama of Kalmykia, Geshe Tenzin Choydak, will bestow vows of abstaining from alcohol, tobacco, and meat upon those wishing to keep the fast. And at 9:00 a.m. the morning festive prayer service dedicated to the arrival of Urs Sar will take place. Irtn, shajna kerg-üüldvrt orltstn🙏
