The tourist flow has increased, and their geography has expanded

Since the beginning of April, “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” has already been visited by 12,000 tourists, and these are only those who attended organized tours. According to Galina Aydarova, senior guide of the Museum of the History of Buddhism of Kalmykia, this year April turned out to be especially “hot” in terms of tourist activity. More than 250 tours were conducted during these days of April. It is also worth noting that the geography of tourists is noticeably expanding. “If earlier we were more often visited by neighboring regions, now people come from Chelyabinsk, Buryatia, and the northern capital of our country. It is very gratifying and evokes a sense of pride that Buddhism opens its doors to absolutely everyone, regardless of nationality and faith,” noted Galina Alekseyevna.

April, May, and June are among the busiest periods for the guides of the main Buddhist temple of Kalmykia. To our great joy, it is worth noting that their ranks are being replenished. These are the people who convey important, necessary information both about the Buddhist Teaching, its Protectors, the history and development of the religion, and about the work of the khurul itself. Thanks to the coordinated work of the guides, the gradually increasing flow of tourists is competently accommodated.
