Vladimir Vaskin Has Passed Away

At the age of 81, Vladimir Savelyevich Vaskin has passed away — a Soviet and Russian sculptor, Honored Artist of Russia, member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and Russia, member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, Honored Art Worker of the Kalmyk ASSR, honorary citizen of the Republic of Kalmykia. The wonderful works he created, such as “Zaya Pandita,” “Girl,” “The Bather,” “Village Actress,” “Dante,” “Legend of the Southern Seas,” “Genghis Khan,” and other compositions executed in wood, metal, and stone, are kept in the collections of state and private museums of Russia, Mongolia, Slovakia, the USA, and so on. Many sculptural compositions adorn City Chess, the parks and squares of Elista. Vladimir Vaskin is the author of sculptures installed in khuruls not only in Elista, but also in many settlements of the republic. The main one is the nine-meter statue of Buddha Shakyamuni in the Central Khurul of Kalmykia “The Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni.” On the temple grounds stand statues of 17 panditas of his making. The Shajin Lama of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche and the monks of the Central Khurul express their deep condolences to the family and loved ones of Vladimir Savelyevich. We pray for his happy rebirth.
