Work on painting the statue of Maitreya completed at the Central Khurul

Today the work on painting the statue of Maitreya, which was presented as a gift to the main Buddhist temple of Kalmykia last year, has been fully completed.

For nearly two months the painstaking work of thangka painters Tatyana Muzraeva and Amra Dordzhi-Goryaeva went on. The day before, one of the important stages took place — the “opening of the eyes” of the statue.

“We worked with tremendous inspiration. We are glad to have taken part in such a virtuous endeavor. We coordinated every detail, the choice of colors, and the entire design with the monks of our Central Khurul,” say the master painters.

Ahead still lies the necessary filling of the statue in accordance with all Buddhist canons.
